The purpose of constituting an Internal Committee as envisioned and prescribed per the law on Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace is to create a healthy working environment that enables employees to work without fear or prejudice, gender bias and sexual harassment. The Internal Committee members are responsible and accountable for the role they play. Having members with the right mindset on the IC is something that every organization strives for and it isn’t always as easy as it seems. The pointers below could serve as a practical guide for organizations around the Roles & Responsibilities of the IC and its members;
- When a complaint is filed, act on it immediately under guidance of the Presiding Officer and External Member and always following the Principles of Natural Justice
- Document the proceedings of every inquiry meeting
- Be present at all proceedings to ensure that the inquiry is conducted and concluded within the specific time frame, as time is the essence of POSH inquiries
- Be sensitive to the issue and act in a manner which is unbiased and impartial. Avoid the mindset of moral policing or activism
- Attend every periodic IC meeting and capture meeting minutes. In a situation where a member is not able to attend the IC meeting, review the meeting minutes
- And most importantly, confidentiality is a critical aspect that every IC member must maintain at all times
- IC members must undergo periodic sensitization and also be provided insights into emerging trends and practices. For any of your customised IC training needs,
